The Maine State Beekeepers Association (MSBA) was founded in 1976. We have eight local Chapters around the state.  The honey bee (apis mellifera) was deemed our state insect in 1975.  We welcome members from all walks of life because bees play a big part in the world wide production of food and you don't have to be a beekeeper to have an interest in the subject.  We extend a welcome to anyone so interested.  By publishing The Bee Line newsletter, setting up exhibits, and participating at fairs and charitable activities, we aim to accomplish our principal goals: to educate and inform Maine beekeepers on the theory and practice of sound beekeeping, to represent the interests of beekeepers before the state legislature and in the statewide agricultural community, and to provide information about bees and beekeeping to the public-at-large.  Our membership represents every level of experience & expertise.

MSBA members may use the MSBA library (ask for a copy of our titles) and attend the wonderful meetings featuring special guest speakers.  The MSBA fosters great camaraderie among beekeepers, who, when gathered together, share their interesting experiences and offer helpful information.

The MSBA and local chapters sponsor and co-ordinate Bee Schools for beginners and refresher courses for the experienced beekeepers every year.  These classes are available to members as well as non-members throughout the State of Maine.

MSBA Chapters receive liability insurance as members of MSBA. Individuals and chapters can unify through the MSBA to make sure our state rule makers address our concerns.  EVERY MSBA member receives our newsletter, The Bee Line...   the lifeline of our organization.

MSBA membership runs from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31.  Annual dues of $15.00 (Individual) or $22.50 (family) is due on Jan. 1.  Membership fees are not pro-rated.  Dues received after September 30th will be counted toward the following year.  Lifetime memberships are available at $180 for individual and $270 for family.
